Improving Health through Transportation Policy
I was moved by Slate.com's article “Is Your Commute Killing You?”, so I wanted to build upon it. It has been a while ago, but the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has made some recommendations as our health and safety applies to transportation actions. Read more...

Winter Mobility In Yellowstone
The last ten years has seen significant battling over winter use in Yellowstone National Park. With no final resolution, the National Park Service (NPS) has been operating under an interim winter use plan since 2009. But that plan expired on March 15 of this year when the 2010-2011 winter season ended. With an expired plan, there is as of now, no legal authority to operate snowmobiles or other over-the-snow vehicles (OSV) in the park. But with winter leaving, and the Draft Economic Impact Statement (DEIS) just released for a new winter use plan, there is time. Read more...

What does it take to get rural Idaho out of single occupancy vehicles?
I’m a mobility manager! It’s my job to promote vanpools, car pools, buses, trails, biking, etc. It’s my job to coordinate and better utilize existing resources and systems. It’s my job to move people and connect Idahoans. And, do it without
single occupancy vehicles. To quote the TV pitchmen: “But wait - there’s more.” I live about 7 miles outside of Sandpoint. I drive my gas guzzling truck to work. My office is on the edge of the city. It is just a little over a mile from downtown and all the lunch spots. For the last year, I would drive that mile to lunch. And, I’m a mobility manager! Every morning, in the garage, I would pass this like new 12 year old bicycle which is next to the like new 10 year old golf clubs. Late last summer it occurred to me. I’m not practicing what I preach. So, the bike moved from the garage to my office where it was used at lunch time and for other meetings in Sandpoint. Winter is here so the bike is back at its off season job of keeping dust from settling on the garage floor. But, I am left with some nagging questions. Read more...

Brooke Green, District 3 Mobility Manager
Hello, I’d like to take a quick moment and introduce myself. My name is Brooke Green, and I am excited to be joining CTAI as the District 3 Mobility Manager (serving Canyon, Ada, Gem, Elmore, Owyhee, Washington, Payette, Idaho, Valley, Boise, and Adams Counties). I began my career working within the non-profit community most notably in marketing, public relations and community outreach. I have spent a large portion of my career working with local community leaders/businesses and stakeholders in improving quality of life for girls within a local non-profit. As I have transitioned within my field I realized that my passion to work for vulnerable populations continued to steer my career path. I have always gravitated toward volunteerism and non-profits and my internal passion for disability awareness took me to working within the transportation community, in my previous position as the Project Director for the AmeriCorps Accessible Transportation Grant within the State Independent Living Council.
