Jan Vasser Appointed to ITD Board

11-Dec-2009 Jan Vassar has been a voice for public transportation and mobility in Idaho for a number of years, and now, her voice will be heard as the newly appointed member of the Idaho Transportation Board.

This week, Jan was appointed by Governor Otter to fill the District 2 seat of the late Bruce Sweeney. Vassar will serve for the remainder of Sweeney’s term, due to expire at the end of January 2010. At the end of the 60-day appointment, the Governor will determine whether or not to reappoint Vassar for a full six-year term.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and look forward to the challenge of addressing the transportation needs throughout the State in this time of limited funding," said Vasser.

Vassar has improved transportation options at the local and statewide level through her experience as Lewiston’s city manager and her involvement on the Public Transportation Advisory Council (PTAC).

As a PTAC member, Vassar was instrumental in the development of a coordinated statewide system of local mobility networks working to enhance transportation services through improved mobility funding decisions, comprehensive community planning, and the identification of transportation needs. Vassar will remain a member of the PTAC until a determination on full appointment is made.

Her appointment will help increase awareness of local mobility efforts, improved collaboration, and inspiring partnership efforts among our state’s transportation decision makers” said Heather Wheeler, Executive Director of the Community Transportation Association of Idaho (CTAI).
